Online Fake Social Friends

How many times have you logged into your favourite social website like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo to just mention a few,to find you have a ‘new friend’ that you have never met?

Here are the top 5 of how to tell if you should really click that decline button:

  • They have many friends already – If a user has allot of friends already, chances are they have added loads of people as well as you! Maybe try checking their page and see if people are asking who they are.
  • A public profile – Let’s be honest most people don’t let everyone see their profile these days, maybe these people have to so that you are more likely to accept?
  • Consistency is the key – Look for obviouse mistakes that a user makes, for example they might say that there are 22 on their page, yet their profile shows their date of birth to be 47 years ago
  • Interesting profile picture – Did you only look at their page because they looked ‘interesting’ well chances are that it’s not them and that was their plan
  • Do your friends know this person? – If they are friends with yours maybe this is a time to ask you friend who this is, maybe they fell into the trap (in which case you show them this page) or maybe you just don’t remember them because it was a long night.

Just remember if you don’t know them, don’t try to. Millions of people every year make friends online and maybe more but most of the time no0one really likes you :-) ,after all you are meeting people right now on your computer rather than going out and meeting people.
