Master Meta Data With Media Center Master

There are several bits of software out there that will add the relavent Metadata to your movies but I have heard good things about this software so lets give it a go. The authors claim that it is perfect for XMBC, Popcorn hour, windows media center etc. It uses data from the IMDB Database to complete all the imformation about your films.

What is Meta Data?

Metadata is a collection of information about your media files. This information could include actor details, movie lengh and release dates. You can display this information inside your media center software, for example using MediaBrowser you can view actors in the movie selected and then find other films that this actor features in. This makes for much more of an all-round complete feeling when using your HTPC. It is also great to show off to friends to compare to their stack of DVD’s by the TV.

Using Media Center Master

You can get hold of the software from http://mediacentermaster.com. There is a free and paid version, the free version should be fine for most but the paid version certainly shows some interesting additions like trailer downloads. When downloading the software you will get a free 10 day trial of the premium version that will automatically downgrade after 10 days.

After installation the first thing to do is select application/set scan folder/add new. Then browse to the location of your media and press OK. If using Windows Media Center of XMBC I suggest selecting themes and choosing your relavent options.

Now select all the media  in the list ( I pressed ctrl +A to select all). The right click and choose ‘Fetch Meta Data’.

My personal usage

To put it short I love this software I have added the meta data for all my films with just a few clicks and created meta data specifically for Windows Media Center, using Media browser I can see all the information that I could ever need about a film. The entire process took between 1-2 hours but was well worth it…

Wrap it up

So using Media Center Master you can control all of your meta data with little effort although it may take a little time but now Media Browser in Windows Media Center looks like it should, remember that software is not only for Windows Media Center but can also create meta data in xml,nfo and .tag format.
The interface only gets a 5/10 because it isn’t the prettiest software that I have used but it definatly get and firm 9/10 for functionality and usability.
