Bristol Balloon Fiesta
Back to Bristol and a free bed for the night at a relatives home, even though a tent would have been much more fun. With my travel buddy in arm again we set off down the M5. An early morning at 7am start on a Saturday, I’m definitely not your average teenager.
About the Fiesta
For those who are not familiar with the fiesta, this year it was celebrating it’s 50th anniversary. The fiesta comprises of several parts ranging from fairground rides to the famous ‘nightglow’. Unfortunately the ascent of most of the balloons was cancelled due to some rather damp weather.
NightGlow
Because of the weather we decided that we only expected to see this one show. The NightGlow comprises of over 20 balloons lighting up the night sky in sequences and rhythms along with music. Here you can see a video of the balloons doing their thing, recorded on my trusty iPhone4. The entire show took roughly 30 minutes to complete and was overall very impressive. Each time that I watch this video back I realise how clever the whole sequence was, and this is only a snippet.
Wrap it Up
Although other parts of the balloon fiesta were cancelled I was still very impressed by the evening show. The event took place on the 12th-15th of August and attracted tens of thousands of people. Everyone seemed to walk out just as impressed as me. I would definitely recommend the fiesta to anyone local to bristol next year. The event cost a total of £7.50 for parking with rides and food on top.Check out my Flickr stream to see some photos.
